Laurentian Escarpment Conservation Area Trails ProposalJun 01, 2018
At a community meeting held on May 30, 2018 the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority unveiled its new draft Trails Proposal for the Laurentian Escarpment Conservation Area.
The Trails Proposal contains three main recommendations for consideration:
1. a multi-use trail network of approx 20 km incorporating the existing Richardson Ridge and McNutt Family trails and an additional 12 km of trails currently in use. Some existing sections of trail would be closed or relocated to avoid areas that have been identified as ecologically sensitive.
2. a community bike park on Ski Club Road across from the Lower Lodge which would include a pumptrack, kid's learning loop, jump trails, a spectator area, and progression skills loops.
3. five downhill bike trails located adjacent to the runs of the Laurentian Ski Hill.
This Trails Proposal provides a starting point for the refinement of the trail network and is intended to start the community conversation.
This Proposal takes into consideration the existing trail usage, a desirable density of trails, trail maintenance requirements, and environmental sensitivities.
