34th annual Mattawa River Canoe Race
RULES & REGULATIONS
As a sanctioned race under the Ontario Marathon Canoe Racing Association, the Mattawa River Canoe Race is subject to the following Rules and Regulations:
Participants under 18 years of age must have their entry form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
A team will consist of two paddlers who must begin and complete the race together in order to qualify for prizes. No one shall help or convey a team or their equipment at any stage of the race. No substitutions are allowed.
Participants will be required to provide their own equipment, including food and water. All racers must have a bailer, 15m line, a sounding device and life jackets or PFDs in the canoe as required by government regulations.
All canoes must be numbered by the race committee; the same canoe must be used throughout the entire race. Paddlers who pull out of the race before the finish must inform race officials as soon as possible.
Drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited. Neither competitors nor officials may use alcohol or illegal drugs before, during or after the race, or on the race site. Penalty will be disqualification, and the local authorities will be contacted.
As a safety measure, canoeists are asked to withdraw from the race at Portage Campion should they not reach this point by 6:00 pm. The race committee will not be responsible for those canoeists who do not adhere to this rule.
The rules of good sportsmanship will prevail. Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification. Decisions of the race committee are final.
Return from Mattawa to North Bay is each canoeist's own responsibility.
The race follows a challenging course through some 64 kilometers (40 miles) of rough country. Pre-running the course is advised.
