Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Fund
Drinking Water Source Protection

The North Bay – Mattawa Source Protection Committee, in conjunction with the North Bay – Mattawa Conservation Authority, has been steadily working on the local source protection planning process (as outlined by Ontario’s Clean Water Act, 2006) to better protect the five sources of municipal drinking water in the North Bay – Mattawa Source Protection Area.

As such, the North Bay – Mattawa Conservation Authority, with the support of the Municipalities of Callander, South River and Powassan, is pleased to deliver financial assistance to property owners located closest to the municipal water source who undertake voluntary early-action stewardship projects in order to better protect the source of municipal drinking water.  This funding is being made available through the Ministry of the Environment’s Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program (ODWSP).

If you are the owner of a home, farm, business or other property within 100 metres of a municipal well, or one kilometre of a surface water intake, or if your property is located within a two-year time-of-travel of a municipal well, you may be eligible for funding up to $7,000 for the maintenance or upgrade of your existing septic system.  The maintenance and/or upgrades may be currently planned or may date back to September 19, 2006. The map on the reverse side of this notice indicates the area of eligibility for the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program.

Please note that the funding for 2009-2010 is very limited and will be distributed to eligible applicants on a first come-first serve basis. Application forms and additional information are available at the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, the Callander municipal office and online at www.actforcleanwater.ca. Applications must be complete and must meet the eligibility requirements in order to be considered.
